Kópakonan (The Seal Woman of Mikladalur)
A fisherman named Torkil from Mikladalur on Kalsoy Island watches a group of seal-people dancing on the shore after shedding their sealskins. He falls in love with the most beautiful seal-woman, steals her sealskin, and locks it in a chest. Unable to return to the sea, she marries him and bears his children. Years later, Torkil forgets the key to the chest while fishing; Kópakonan finds her skin and returns to the ocean, leaving her human family behind.
