La Diablesse, the Devil Woman
La Diablesse is a seductive she-devil from Trinidadian folklore who appears as a breathtakingly beautiful woman in an old-fashioned embroidered dress and wide-brimmed hat, smelling of expensive perfume. By moonlight, the perceptive may glimpse her true nature — one cloven hoof hidden beneath the hem. She lures unfaithful husbands, drunken braggarts, and morally weak men by catching their gaze and walking away, her petticoat making a rhythmic chac-chac sound. She leads them deep into the wilderness until she vanishes at the edge of a ravine, leaving them lost, injured, or dead. La Diablesse doe
