Layla and Majnun
Based on the true 7th-century story of Qays ibn al-Mulawwah, a Bedouin poet of the Banu Amir tribe in Najd, who fell deeply in love with his cousin Layla. When her father refused the match due to Qays's obsessive behavior (seen as madness or jinn-possession, earning him the epithet 'Majnun' meaning 'crazy'), and forced Layla to marry another man, Qays fled to the desert, living among wild beasts and composing heartbroken poetry.
