The tragic legend of Mahsuri, a beautiful and virtuous woman from Kedah who lived on the island of Langkawi in the early 19th century. Falsely accused of adultery by a jealous rival, Mahsuri was found guilty by the village chief and sentenced to death by keris (ceremonial dagger). When executed, white blood flowed from her wound, proving her innocence. Before dying, she cursed Langkawi for seven generations — a curse that allegedly brought war, famine, and misfortune to the island.
