Malakas at Maganda (The First Man and Woman)
According to ancient Tagalog creation myth, the world began as a vast emptiness with only the sea and sky. A huge bird grew tired of flying and stirred up the sea, causing an island to emerge. From a bamboo stalk split by the bird, the first man Malakas (Strong) and the first woman Maganda (Beautiful) sprang forth, becoming the ancestors of all humanity.
