Matlose is the most feared hobgoblin spirit of the Nuu-chah-nulth people, described as a monstrous Caliban-like creature. His head resembles something that might have been human but is not, and his uncouth bulk is horrid with black bristles. His monstrous teeth and curved claws are like those of a bear, capable of rending prey into morsels with a single stroke.
