Meandash: The Celestial Reindeer Hunt
In Kola Sámi tradition, Meandash also exists as a celestial reindeer hunted by the thunder god in the sky. The cosmic hunt is reflected in the constellations—Orion, the Pleiades, and Arcturus belong to the cosmic elk-reindeer hunt tradition. When the thunder god strikes Meandash down, everything falls apart: fire envelops the earth, mountains boil, ice boils, stars fall, the moon goes out, and the sun sinks. The myth describes an apocalypse.
