Mukasa: The God of Lake Victoria
Mukasa is the powerful god of Lake Victoria (Nalubaale) and the most important of the Lubaale (national deities) in Buganda tradition. According to legend, Mukasa was a human prince who was transformed into a lake deity because of his extraordinary wisdom and compassion. He lives in a magnificent palace beneath the waters of Lake Victoria, surrounded by his spirit attendants. Mukasa governs the lake's bounty — the fish, the calm waters, and the storms. Before setting out on the lake, fishermen make offerings of banana beer, coffee berries, and goat meat at his shrines along the shores. Mukasa
