Na'pi Creates the Buffalo
After Na'pi (Old Man) created the world and the first people, he saw that they were hungry. He went to a cave deep in the mountains where the buffalo were kept. Na'pi opened the cave and the buffalo poured out across the plains, providing food, clothing, and shelter for the people. He taught the Blackfoot how to conduct buffalo hunts with respect, using every part of the animal and giving thanks to the buffalo spirit. Na'pi emphasized that the buffalo were a gift from Apistotoke and must never be wasted, or they would disappear.
