When Old Man South Wind was traveling north, he met an Old Woman who was a giant. Hungry and tired, he asked for food. She gave him a net and told him to catch fish. South Wind caught a little whale and was about to cut it crossways when the old giantress warned him to slit it down the back instead. He ignored her and cut crossways. The whale transformed into a huge bird so big that when it flew into the air it hid the sun and the noise of its wings shook the earth — it was Thunderbird.
