The Ounamir myth is a cornerstone of Amazigh oral tradition from southern Morocco, particularly around Tata and Tagoujgalt. Hemmou Ounamir is a gifted student whose beauty attracts Tanirt, a celestial being (often rendered as an angel, fairy, or djinn princess). She secretly marks his hand with henna. After being exposed at Quranic school, Ounamir captures Tanirt with his teacher's help. She agrees to marry him only if he builds an unbreachable home, but his mother discovers the hidden key and violates the forbidden space, causing Tanirt to flee back to the heavens.
