The Ounamir myth is a cornerstone of Amazigh oral tradition from southern Morocco, particularly around Tata and Tagoujgalt. Hemmou Ounamir is a gifted student whose beauty attracts Tanirt, a celestial being (often rendered as an angel, fairy, or djinn princess). She secretly marks his hand with henna.
