Panchatantra — The Lion and the Bull
The first book of Panchatantra, 'Mitra Bheda' (The Loss of Friends), tells of a lion king named Pingalaka who befriends a bull named Sanjivaka. A jealous jackal named Damanaka, who serves the lion, sows discord between them by feeding lies to both parties. He convinces the lion that the bull plans to usurp the throne, and tells the bull that the lion plans to kill him. The friendship collapses, leading to a fight in which the lion kills the bull. The story illustrates how manipulators destroy strong alliances by exploiting trust, and warns against listening to gossip and slander.
