Papa Legba is the most important lwa (spirit) in Haitian Vodou, serving as the gatekeeper between the human and spirit worlds. No human can communicate with any other spirit without Papa Legba's permission. He stands at the spiritual crossroads, deciding whether a person is allowed to speak with other lwa.
