Raven Pulls the Salmon (Tlingit)
After Raven brought light to the world and created rivers and lakes, there were still no salmon in the coastal waters. The salmon, herrings, and ooligans were kept in a magical house in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where they spawned without ever coming to shore. Only rich chiefs could paddle out to catch them, leaving the poor hungry. Raven heard of Xanaax.atwaayaa, a mythical being who possessed an octopus-tentacle staff with supernatural powers. Raven tricked the being into trading the staff by demonstrating a magical bow and arrow (actually a magpie) that seemed to kill a mountain goat
