In the time before light, Raven (Nang Kilslas) was tired of living in darkness. He discovered an old chief who kept all the light of the universe hidden in a nested set of five boxes. Raven transformed himself into a hemlock needle and dropped into the river where the chief's daughter came to drink. She swallowed the needle and became pregnant, giving birth to Raven-child.
