Raven the Creator (Nivkh Tradition)
The Nivkh creation myth centered on the Raven, a central figure shared with neighboring Chukchi and Koryak traditions. In Nivkh mythology, the Raven (known as Kurka or similar names) created the world by diving into the primordial sea and bringing up earth on his beak. He shaped the land of Sakhalin Island and the Amur River estuary, and then created human beings from clay mixed with his own feathers.
