Risin og Kellingin (The Giant and the Witch)
Two giant sea stacks off the northern coast of Eysturoy, near Eiði. Legend says that giants in Iceland grew envious of the Faroe Islands and sent a giant and his wife (a witch) to drag the islands back to Iceland. The giant stood in the sea while the witch climbed the mountain Eiðiskollur with a heavy rope to tie the islands together. They struggled all night but could not move the islands. At dawn, sunlight struck them and turned them both to stone. The 71m stack (Risin/the Giant) and 68m stack (Kellingin/the Witch) remain visible from Tjørnuvík on Streymoy, staring longingly west toward Icel
