River Mumma and the Golden Table
River Mumma is a female water spirit who guards the sources of Jamaica's rivers. She is sometimes seen sitting by the river, combing her long hair with a golden comb, leaving the comb on rocks to entice victims whom she then draws into the water. Associated with her is the Legend of the Golden Table: a table of pure gold lies at the bottom of certain rivers, rising briefly to the surface at midday.
