Rostam and Sohrab
The most famous tragedy of the Persian Shahnameh. Rostam, Iran's greatest hero, travels to Samangan where he marries Princess Tahmineh. He returns to Iran, leaving her pregnant with Sohrab. Years later, Sohrab, now Turan's mightiest warrior, leads an army against Iran, hoping to find his father. Unaware of each other's identity, father and son meet in single combat. After a grueling battle, Rostam throws Sohrab and stabs him. Only then does Sohrab show the armband amulet given by Tahmineh. Rostam discovers he has killed his own son. Despite desperate pleas for medicine, Kay Kavus withholds it.
