Sickness Spirits and the Noaidi's Healing
A collection of legends about sickness spirits that cause disease. Illness was understood spiritually—either as soul-loss, as punishment for broken taboos, or as an attack by a hostile noaidi. The noaidi would use his drum to diagnose the cause, then journey in trance to retrieve the lost soul or confront the malevolent spirit. Sacrifices were promised to specific gods if healing was granted.
