Sinbad the Sailor (Seven Voyages)
A wealthy Baghdad merchant known as Sinbad the Sailor recounts his seven extraordinary voyages to a poor porter named Sinbad the Landsman. Each voyage brings shipwreck, monstrous creatures (the giant bird Roc, gigantic serpents, whale-islands, cyclopean giants), and fantastic lands. Sinbad outwits cannibals, escapes the Valley of Diamonds, rides sea monsters, and encounters the Old Man of the Sea who clings to his shoulders. Through wit, courage, and Allah's mercy, he returns home each time richer, only to be driven again by wanderlust. The tales are a masterpiece of Arab maritime folklore.
