Songtsen Gampo and the Founding of Tibet
The semi-legendary account of King Songtsen Gampo (7th century CE), the founder of the Tibetan Empire and the first Dharma King. According to Tibetan tradition, he was an emanation of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, sent to bring civilization and Buddhism to the Tibetan people. He built the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, subdued the demoness that lay beneath the Tibetan landscape by constructing 108 temples on her body's pressure points, and invented the Tibetan script by sending his minister Thonmi Sambhota to India. His marriage to Princess Wencheng of China and Princess Bhrikuti of Nepal is said
