Stállo and Kauras
The classic Sámi Stállo tale. The evil giant Stállo lived in Storfjellet and demanded reindeer sacrifices from the Sámi. He controlled all predators and would kill reindeer if not appeased. The brave Sámi boy Kauras decides to defeat him. After a head-butting contest where Kauras tricks Stállo by hiding his head in a hollowed tree trunk, Kauras survives Stállo's nighttime murder attempt. Terrified, Stállo pays Kauras silver and is expelled from the mountain forever.
