Átahsaia the Cannibal Demon

A Zuni legend about Átahsaia, a giant cannibal demon who terrorized the people. Átahsaia is described as a huge, monstrous being with burning eyes and an insatiable hunger for human flesh, especially children. The demon would descend from the mountains to raid villages, carrying off victims in a large basket on its back. The twin war gods Áhaiyúta and Mátsailéma confronted Átahsaia to save their people.
