The Big White Dog and the Sacred Pole (Chickasaw)
In this Chickasaw origin story, a great white dog led the people on their migration and guided them with the sacred pole. The white dog was sent by Ababinili to protect the Chickasaw people during their long journey from the west. Each day, the dog would lead the way, and at night, the sacred pole was planted in the ground. The direction the pole leaned would indicate the path for the next day's travel. After many years, the pole finally stood upright at the site where the Chickasaw would settle. The great white dog then disappeared, its mission complete. The white dog is honored in Chickasaw
