The Bird Grip

A king goes blind, and an old woman tells him that only the song of the magical bird Grip — kept in a cage by a king in another land — can restore his sight. His eldest son sets out to fetch the bird but stops at a merry inn and forgets his mission, drinking and gambling. The second son does the same. The youngest son, however, resists temptation and continues his journey. He stays at a sinister inn where the host murders guests who cannot pay. The prince pays the dead man's debt, arranges his burial, and escapes with the help of a captive maid. He then meets a talking fox who becomes his guid
