The Blackfoot Creation: Apistotoke, Na'pi, and the World
Apistotoke (Ihtsipatapiyohpa), the Great Spirit, created first the Sky Beings: Naato'si the Sun, Ko'komiki'somm the Moon, and the stars including Aapisowaahs the Morning Star. He then created Ksahkomitapi (Earth) as mother to all creation. Apistotoke created Na'pi (Old Man), the first man and demigod who shaped the world with his wife Kipitaakii (Old Lady). Using mud collected by Turtle during a great flood, Na'pi designed the earth, then created men, women, animals, and plants. He taught the Blackfoot people which plants to eat and animals to hunt, especially the buffalo.
