The Cave of Caguana: Taino Creation
According to Taino mythology, all human life began in a sacred cave called Cacibajagua (Cave of the Jagua) on the island of Haiti (Hispaniola). The first humans emerged from this cave, while the gods dwelt in the Cave of the Serpent and the Cave of Coaybay. The deity Iguanaboína was among the first beings from the river. The Taino believed their ancestors originated from this cave system, with different groups emerging at different times.
