The Daughter of the Moon and the Son of the Sun
A romantic Sámi folk tale. Niekia, the Moon's daughter raised by an elderly Sámi couple, had a face like cloudberries and hair of silver. When Peivalke (the Sun's son) fell in love with her, she refused him and fled. She found an empty house by the sea, cleaned it, and hid as a spindle. Northern Light warriors led by Nainas entered at dusk. The Sun pinned Nainas with a heat shaft. Niekia shielded him and was seized by the Sun. The Moon rescued her daughter.
