When the sun god Ra grew old, humanity rebelled against his rule. Ra assembled the gods and proposed to destroy mankind. Following their counsel, he sent his Eye—the goddess Hathor—in the form of the fierce lioness Sekhmet to punish humanity. Sekhmet descended upon the earth and slaughtered people with relish, wading in blood and destroying everything in her path. Ra watched the carnage with growing horror and repented his decision.
