Ak-Kaan ('White Khan') is an Altai heroic epic telling of a shining white khan who brought justice to the Altai mountains. Born with a divine radiance, Ak-Kaan could see through deception and hear lies hidden in words. His quest was to defeat the dark shamans serving Erlik and restore balance between the upper and lower worlds. With his magical horse (argamak) that could fly between the three worlds, Ak-Kaan traveled to the court of Bai-Ulgen in the sky to receive divine weapons. He returned to defeat the seventy-seven demons of Erlik and establish the 'White Faith' (Ak Jang) — the Burkhanist
