The Epic of Alpamysh (Uzbek Version)
The Uzbek version of Alpamysh (Alpomish) is the national heroic epic of Uzbekistan, with the largest recorded version by bard Fazil Yuldashogli containing 14,000 verses. The epic follows Alpamysh from his miraculous birth to elderly parents through his heroic courtship of Barchin, whom he wins in suitor contests. After marrying Barchin and returning home, he fights the usurper Ultantaz who has persecuted his father and tried to force Barchin into marriage. Alpamysh, returning after seven years in disguise as his old shepherd Kultay, comes to the wedding feast, frees his wife, and kills Ultanta
