The Epic of Geser Khan
Geser Khan is the central hero of one of the great Mongolian epics. Born as a runny-nosed, despised child on the Mongolian steppe, he is actually the son of the sky-deity Khürmasta Tengri, sent to earth to defeat the demons (mangus) that are devouring the world. Despite being mocked and rejected, Geser grows to defeat multi-headed ogres, rescue his mother from the underworld, marry the celestial princess Rogmo Goa, and subdue the entire universe including heaven and earth. The epic survives in Mongolian, Tibetan, Buryat, and Altai versions, with the earliest Mongolian printed edition from 1716
