The Exodus from Notsie (Ewe)
The Ewe people once lived under the tyrannical rule of King Agokoli (Togbe Agorkoli) in the walled city of Notsie (in present-day Togo). The king forced his subjects to build a massive mud wall around the city and worked them cruelly. The Ewe elders devised a clever escape plan: the women were told to wash their clothes in water and then soak them, creating a muddy slurry that they used to soften a section of the wall.
