The Girl Who Climbed to the Sky
An Arapaho girl was picking berries when she saw a porcupine in a tree. She climbed after it, but the tree grew taller and taller, carrying her into the sky world. In the sky, she found a beautiful land populated by spirits. She married a sky spirit and was happy, but she missed her earthly family. The spirits taught her songs and ceremonies that she would bring back to her people. Eventually, a spider spun a web to lower her back to Earth, where she taught the Arapaho the sky ceremonies she had learned. She became a powerful medicine woman.
