Oniare is a dragon-like horned serpent of the Great Lakes region, deeply feared by the Iroquois and neighboring tribes for its habit of capsizing canoes and devouring people. It lives in the deepest parts of lakes and rivers, controlling the waters and causing storms. The serpent has a single horn or a crest of antlers and can grow to enormous size. It is the archetypal enemy of the Thunderers, who hunt it across the sky.
