The Hmong creation myth centers on a great flood that destroyed the world and the surviving sibling pair who repopulated it. According to the oral tradition passed down through generations, a great argument between the Sky Father (Saub) and the Earth led to a devastating flood that covered the entire world. Only two siblings — usually named as a brother and sister, known by various names in different clans — survived by taking refuge inside a large wooden funeral drum or a hollow gourd that floated on the waters.
