The Hopi Clan Migrations
Upon arriving in the Fourth World, the Hopi divided and began great migrations across the land. Led by various signs and helped by Spider Woman, clans traveled to every direction, sometimes stopping to build towns, then abandoning them to continue their migrations. They left symbols on rocks to show that Hopi had been there. Clans were named after events or signs received during their journeys. Periods of harmonious living alternated with wickedness, contention, and separation — a pattern that began in the First World.
