The Legend of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar — Sufi Saint of Sehwan
Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, born Syed Muhammad Usman in Marand, Iran, was a 13th-century Sufi saint who settled in Sehwan, Sindh (present-day Pakistan). His name means 'Red Falcon,' referring to his crimson attire and spiritual stature. He belonged to the Qalandariyya order, known for rejecting orthodox religious formalism in favor of mystical love and ecstatic devotion. His shrine in Sehwan is one of Pakistan's most important pilgrimage sites, where daily dhamaal (ecstatic drumming and dance) brings together Hindus and Muslims. Countless folk stories attribute miracles to him, including healing the
