The Origin of the Apsara Dancers
According to Khmer mythology, the Apsaras are celestial dancers born from the churning of the Ocean of Milk — a Hindu creation myth adopted and deeply embedded in Cambodian culture. The story tells of the devas (gods) and asuras (demons) who churned the cosmic ocean using Mount Mandara as a churning rod and the serpent Vasuki as a rope.
