One night on the northwest shores of the island of Gotland, fishermen sleeping in a hut see a white, dew-besprinkled woman's hand reaching through the door. They recognize it as a sea nymph seeking to destroy them, and pretend to be asleep. The next day, a young, newly married man from Kinnar in Lummelund joins them. He boasts that had he been present, he would have taken the hand. That night, a plump white arm with a beautiful hand reaches in. True to his word, the young man seizes it.
