The Tale of the Lost Man (Tuareg)
A classic Tuareg teaching tale from the rich Imayen oral tradition. A man becomes lost in the vast Sahara desert during a sandstorm. His water runs out, his camel collapses, and he resigns himself to death. As he lies on the sand, a mystical camel appears—a creature that seems to be made of light and shadow, with eyes that glow like stars. The camel carries him to a hidden oasis where a Tuareg elder lives. The elder nurses him back to health and teaches him the ways of the desert: how to read the stars, how to find water in dry wadis, how to respect the wind. When the traveler is ready to leav
