Leuk the Hare is the clever trickster of Wolof folklore, constantly outwitting Bouki the Hyena, who is greedy, stupid, and easily fooled. In one famous tale, Bouki and Leuk found a calabash of milk. Leuk wanted it all for himself, so he convinced Bouki that the milk was poisoned and offered to run and fetch an antidote. While gone, Leuk drank all the milk.
