A childless woman is given an egg to hatch in her bosom, but out comes a cockerel. He grows enormous, ploughs the fields with a single ox, then sets off to win the king's daughter. He gathers a fox, wolf, bear, and lake as companions, defeats the king's geese, cattle, and horses, survives being roasted, and finally the princess wrings his neck—releasing a handsome prince.
