The Vittra – The Hidden People of Åland
The vittra (singular: vitter) are an underground-dwelling people who live in a parallel civilization beneath the hills and meadows of Åland. Invisible to most humans, they have their own farms, livestock, and churches. They are known to do favors for humans who treat them with dignity and respect, but can become vengeful if their homes are disturbed — for example, by building a structure on their invisible property.
