The Water Serpent of Tornedalen

A mythical water serpent from the Tornedalen region, known in both Sámi and Meänkieli traditions as Čáhcegearpmaš. This huge serpent lives in lakes and rivers and frightens people away from fishing. It embodies the dangers of Arctic waters. The tradition is preserved in contemporary Sámi children's radio programs.
