The Yule Stállu (Juovlastállu)
A terrifying Christmas tradition from Finnmark and northern Troms. Juovlastállu is the Yule giant who punishes children who misbehave at Christmas. He drives a sled pulled by mice or lemmings. Families must sweep the area around the home clean so the sled doesn't get stuck, and must leave water outside for him. If he doesn't get water, he becomes enraged and may suck blood from humans. He whistles sharply in the wind. His pipe or whistle can be dangerous to hearing.
