The settlement of Trøllanes on Kalsoy Island takes its name from ancient trolls who would come ashore once a year to wreak havoc—eating all available food, drinking, dancing, and behaving like wild party-goers. Terrified villagers would flee to Mikladalur every year, leaving their homes to be ransacked. One year, a woman was unable to escape and hid under a table as the trolls danced and feasted above her.
