White Painted Woman and Child of the Water (Chiricahua Apache)
In Chiricahua and Mescalero Apache tradition, the creation begins not with an emergence from the underworld but with a great flood that destroyed a malevolent world. After the flood, White Painted Woman (Changing Woman) appeared. She conceived Child of the Water (also known as Killer-of-Enemies in Lipan tradition) from the rays of the Sun. Child of the Water became the dominant culture hero who rids the world of monsters. He is sometimes described as the Sun himself in some versions, and his younger brother is the Wise One.
